Hello Friends!

Well, where did this year go? I cannot believe how quickly the year is going by. It’s the middle of October already and it's time to prepare Christmas cards. :)

I’ve been crouching in front of a computer for last couple of months madly uploading, designing, and finishing up a website for Little Curly collection. It’s really wonderful to finally have a “space” for everything…all in one place. But wow…. there are details that I had no idea about. Kinda like building a house. :)

Mui Mui, she is one of Little Curly's best friends and she lives next door to Little Curly. Mui Mui is a shy little girl and she doesn't like to be in any photoshoots. They always hang out together after school and most of the half term.

Ting ting, Ting ting is one of Little Curly's classmates and soul mate. They talk to each others and share they feeling of everything all the time. Ting ting is a very warm, clever and straight forward girl.Through her expression on her face....... Little Curly knows how does she feel and no need to ask more.

As you may already know which was Leonardo Da Vinci's favorite brand of paper!

After testing with several papers, I decided to use this an elegant deckle-edged, mould-made in Italy of 100% high alpha cellulose paper - Fabriano Medioevalis for all of my art prints.

And it was Leonardo Da Vinci's favorite brand of paper!

Papermaking reaches Southern Italy, where until recently, some of the oldest handmade paper mills in Italy were operating near Amalfi, in the Naples area. With a production capacity of over 200,000 tons, four production plants and approximately 628 employees, Cartiere Miliani Fabriano - spanning a period from the thirteenth century to the present - is a company that is historic yet modern, with characteristics that are unique in the paper industry.

First mention of the Fabriano, Italy, paper mills (1276). First mill established in Bologna, Italy (1293).

What Is a Limited Edition Art Print?

A limited edition art print is a copy of an original piece of art that has been produced as part of a definite, immutable number of copies taken from the same plate, or impression, of the original. It must be numbered and signed by the original artist to make it worthy of collecting for investment purposes.

And also edition or print run is the total number of prints made from the original image. Print numbered 50/100 means that the print is number 50 of 100 prints in the edition run.

I would like to share this heart-warming story with you all :

Sometime in early December 2010 a little girl named Amber came to my shop with her Father because she wanted to give me her drawing, which was inspired by my Little Curly illustrations.

Amber’s dad told me that they (Amber’s Mother and Father) gave Amber a birthday card and a art print of Little Curly for her 5th birthday. Since then Amber absolutely fell in love with Little Curly.

Every day Amber comes back from school she will sit the card in front of her for inspiration and start to draw. When Amber’s mother asked her why she suddenly loves to draw so much, Amber replied “It’s because I love Little Curly so much mummy, I now want to be an artist”.

One day Amber asked her father if he know where Little Curly (the artist) lives because she wanted to send one of her drawings to Little Curly as a Christmas gift. Her father told Amber that she didn’t have to send the drawing to the artist as Amber and her father could go to the shop and give the artist the drawing personally as her father new where she worked. Of course Amber was over the moon and very excited.

Amber and her father came to the shop where I work and Amber very shyly presented her drawing to me.

To this day I am still touched by the fact that a 5 year child can be Inspired so much by Little Curly that she not only would like to become an artist but she also wanted to inspire me with her work, and she does every day I set on eyes on it!

Wonderful!

This so touch my heart and it brighten up my day every time I look at this drawing !

What Does Chic Mean?

Do you know what does "Chic" mean? Of course you do.

"Chic" which means skill, fitness, and elegance. The word chic is basically a French word, which later in 1870's came to be known as an English word. It carried the meaning smart or stylish.
In German language it holds the meaning tact or skill. In early years in French it referred to the anglicised and particularly unchic, which was a form of "chick".
The word chick also means a girl who is attractive and fashionable or even stylish.

Now, let me introduce to you the other series of my illustrations: Chic Girl.

My "Chic Girl" series is somewhat different to my "Little Curly" series.

"Chic Girl" brings out the risqué side of me, empowering women with sexuality

and elegance.

"Chic Girl" is - The fashion meets the art, the creative meets the seductive.

A couple of months ago, one of my friends - Nicole, who is also a customer of mine from Hong Kong bought two "Little Curly" art prints for her daughter Lea, for her bedroom and sent these great photos to me.

As an artist, it is so lovely to know that someone is getting such Joy from what you do and bringing them such happiness!

Because Art is all about Sharing!!! And I love to share with you!

How was your Christmas?

Before X'mas dinner we had some drinks in our local pub - Cat Back (a superb independent London Pub. It's situated just by the River Thames between Putney Bridge and Wandsworth Bridge. Famous for it's extraordinary interior and great atmosphere. They are known for delicious pub food and the best Sunday Roast in town)

What a lovely table decorated for X'mas!

Look! This was our X'mas starter ..........

I was very enjoyed the starter and completely forgot to take photos for our X'mas dinner Roasted Duck- Yummyyyy..... and Desserts!

I had not really thought of producing my work as cards until a girl who saw my work posted on Saatchi online Gallery and sent me a message to ask where she could buy my prints or cards, I also received numerous friends’ requests about the availability of cards and seen other artists selling their work on line, so I started to do some research on the internet about “How to sell your art online”…..... Then I found a site for artists to sell handmade craft, I signed up as member to learn how do other artists sell their work, a few months later I set up Ella Parry online shop and started selling my own greeting cards which are now sold in a variety of locations! :)

I print the cards myself rather than employing a printer; I have found this is the cheapest & most convenient option, which allows me to control all aspects of the service from printing quality to maintaining an appropriate level of stock.

I use a 6-colour Epson Photo Stylus printer (its does super print), I get most of my greeting cards (blank cards, envelopes and cello bag) from recycled papers suppliers - eco-craft Ltd.

* Tips: Purchase them in bull to keep cost down.

All cards are made using:

* 100% recycled texture white card
* 100% recycled envelope
* biodegradable cello bag
* cards are blank inside
* hand decorated
All images are from Ella’s original illustrations

I love to draw under the natural light but living in London with this "Grey" weather....... forget about it :(

working on my "little curly first day of school' children book

Light can be a big issue for artist!!! Especially come to the winter time in UK.

If you're working in a studio without large north-facing windows or like me, living in London with short daylight (it starts to get dark around 4pm), you should invest a daylight bulbs so you can draw all day, all night long!!!!

Do You Remember Your First Day of School?

I will remember that day all my life: the first day of kindergarten -

The night before my first day of school, I could not sleep well at all, I woke up to check the time every half hour, I was worry I might be late for school, mum might forget to set the alarm or she might set the wrong time..........etc, etc!!!

And when we arrived school, mum sent me to my class teacher and left school, I was so scarely and I felt a wave of tears coming down from my eyes but I kept smile.... and pretend I was all right !!!
